Adelaide Invitational Night Series Meet II 2009
The Adelaide Invitational Night Series Race II, will be held on Wednesday 21st of January at Santos Stadium.
Mens 200m, 400m, 800m and 3000m, and Womens 200m, 800m and a mixed 3000m
The Mens 3000m is the feature race of the meet, with 18 year old South Australian Richard Everest attempting to break the Australian Under 20 record of 8.01.26 which was been held by Craig Mottram before NSW athlete Ryan Gregson broke it. Victorian Athlete Liam Adams who is a two time World X-Country representative and fellow Victorian Clint Perrett a three time Australian Ekiden Team representative will be fierce competition for Everest as he attempts this historical feat. All three athletes are confident of breaking the 8mintue barrier for the first time.
In the mixed 3000m, WA’s Lauren Shelley who finished 8th in Melbourne Commonwealth Games marathon will take on SA’s best distance runner and Australian representative Tara Palm. Both athletes will be looking to post fast times to keep up with their eastern state rivals.
In-form sprinter Clay Watkins will again try to complete the sprint double, this time in the 200m and 400m. He will be looking to go close to 21.5 seconds (200m) and 46.5 seconds (400m). In the 200m Clay will have tough competition from training partner Robbie James and national 400m finalist Alex Bubner . In the 400m, the nation's number two decathlete Jarrod Sims will be keen to make Watkins earn his win.
Leanne Hodge who has never lost a race in the Adelaide Invitational series will be going for win number seven. This time she will have her toughest test yet against recent Bay Sheffield and Burnie Gift winner Alicia Wrench-Doody, whilst talented heptathlete Lauren Foote will be looking to post a quick time in between throwing a javelin, within the mixed javelin competition.
800m specialists James Boden and Hayden Cook will be out to post more fast times this season and to break the 1:50 mark for the first time. Also Michael Hane at the age of 34, who is in his best form for many years, will be chasing them to the line.
The first races gets underway at 8pm, and the program will finish up by 9pm. There is free entry to all spectators and the action will be called by Terry Mcaullife.
