Adelaide Invitational Night Series II

Postby P-j Bosch on Sat Nov 24, 2007 1:31 pm

The Adelaide Invitational Night Series Race II, will be held on Wednesday 28th of November at Santos Stadium.

Featuring Mens and Womens 100m, 400m, 800m and Mens 3000m. Also the South Australian All Schools Relay teams will be competing.

The headline Race will be the Mens 100m, with 2003 and 2005 Bay Sheffield winners going head to head. Todd Bateman, a World Junior Representative and Under 16 and 18 State Record holder destroyed the field in the 200 metres at Flinders SAAL meet recently and hopes to hold his blistering form. Bateman is up against the ever- improving Clay Watkins, who added another major gift to his collection in Whyalla. Watkins won the first night series race from his training partner Duncan Tippins. National decathlon silver medallist Jarrod Sims, will also be competing with an aim of improving his PB and breaking through the 11second barrier. Jake Jervis-Bardy will be looking to find some form after injuries have kept the speedster sidelined in recent months. Robbie James will make his long awaited come back and is hoping to show that his speed is still there and his true potential is yet to be realised. Lyall Wier and Dale Woodhams will round out a one of the strongest fields put together in SA sprinting for many years.

In the Womens 100m, it will once again be a story about how far will inform and unbeaten Leanne Hodge win by this time. Hodge, under her fathers calculated guidance has yet to put a foot wrong this season and will be looking to break 11.50

Stephen Landers is keen to impress again, will be challenged by World Junior Representative and muscle man Alex Bubner. Both athletes are searching for a time under 47 seconds for the first time. This race should be a battle of strength down the home straight, and one not to miss.

Holly Noack will be looking to show her speed in the women’s 400m. After recently improving her personal best in the 800m to a nationally competitive time of 2:06 she is sure to set a good mark in the 400m. She is joined by new training partner Caitlin Stanley who is keen to show that she too can go well over the 1 lap journey.

The men’s and women’s 800m is set to show the states potential for the traditionally competitive distance. It has been a long time since a South Australian has impressed on the national scene in this event, but recent form shows that a contender is just around the corner. James Boden is looking to test his strength and speed before he journeys over to the US collegiate system, and will face some strong competition from the experienced Michael Hane. Other athletes to watch in this field are youngsters Chris Stapleton, Flinders athlete Peter Hyde and the outspoken Brad Fisk. In the women’s race the spotlight will be shining brightly on Heptathlete Lauren Foote, and the young starlet Tessa Potenzy. They will be chased all the way to the line by a strong group of runners from Flinders Athletic Club.

The men’s 3000m will see which athlete has the speed and strength to go the distance. This event allows middle distance athletes to compete with the distance runners, and will challenge each athlete to establish a new Personal Best in the event. The favourite in this event would have to be Dale Engler, who is searching for form in an attempt to return successfully from injury. He won’t have it all his own way, with Adelaide Harriers being represented by the strong figure of Chris Hartley. In the mix will also be a barrage of young athletes attempting to break 9 minutes for the first time. Rhys Jones and Tim Pryer have shown that they both wish to be the states top youngster and this battle should ensure that behind the senior athletes our juniors are ready to make their mark. Race Director PJ Bosch will be out to keep the pace fast, and help the states top distance runners break some barriers.

Action gets underway at 8pm with Junior Relays 4x100m and entry is FREE for all spectators.
